TEMPEST TITANIUM FILTER

Optional filter for finer control, on demand.

The titanium filter is a precision add-on for small hits, finer particles, and extracts. It sits under the bowl to catch ash and tiny debris before they reach the labyrinth, which is most useful when the pipe is new or freshly cleaned, before it’s had a chance to season.

Tempest also performs beautifully without the filter, so think of it as an optional tune-up, not a requirement.

Why it exists

The filter sits under the bowl, above the labyrinth. Its job is simple: catch ash and fine particles before they enter the cooling path. That keeps the labyrinth cleaner, longer, and helps the Tempest stay consistent session after session.

WHEN TO USE IT

Reach for the filter when you want finer control, smaller hits, or a cleaner airflow path. It’s especially useful when the Tempest is brand new or freshly cleaned, when your material is dry and crumbly, or when you want to keep particles out of the labyrinth for longer stretches between deep cleans.

THE TRADEOFF

Because it’s doing real work, the filter can build up residue under heavy use. When that happens, airflow can tighten and the pull can feel more restricted. If you notice the draw changing, clean the filter or remove it and run the Tempest without it.

HOW TO USE

Open Tempest. Place the filter into the shallow cavity above the labyrinth. Make sure it sits flat. Close Tempest and reinstall the lid. That’s it.

CLEANING AND CARE

If it starts to feel sticky or clogged, a short soak in isopropyl alcohol loosens everything fast. Rinse with warm water, dry completely, and drop it back in. Check out our post How to Clean Your Tempest Pipe for more information.

PURE TITANIUM, BUILT TO LAST

The filter is made from pure titanium, so it won’t rust, burn, or wear out from normal use. Clean it as often as you want. It’s designed to last a very long time.

QUICK FIXES

If the pull feels tighter than usual, the filter is usually ready for a clean, or it’s time to take it out for a session. If it’s clogging quickly, it’s doing its job, but you’ll want to tap it out more often during heavier sessions, or reserve it for the times you actually need it.

It’s best to keep multiple filters in rotation so you can swap in a fresh one and keep your session going, then clean the used ones later when you feel like it. The Tempest Field Kit includes four titanium filters.
